Laboratory vortex mixer

A laboratory vortex mixer is a device used to shake tubes and laboratory vessels to mix the liquids within them.

It consists of an electric motor with a vertically oriented drive shaft attached to a slightly mounted recessed rubber part.

While the engine is running, the rubber piece swings rapidly in a circular motion. By pressing the test tube or other suitable container into the rubber cup, the movement is transmitted into the liquid and a vortex is created.

Parts of a vortex shaker

  • Head: Support surface for a single tube.
  • Button: Double position switch for continuous or manual operation.
  • Power indicator: Indicates the operating status of the device

Other models include heads to shake several test tubes at the same time (platform) and a speed regulator that controls it by increasing or decreasing it.

The vortex mixer has two working modes: continuous stirring and contact stirring.

Continuous Agitation

  • The speed is set to the minimum, the equipment is placed on a stable surface and an electrical outlet is connected to it.
  • Turn the two-position control to the left to ON and the operating indicator light will come on. The equipment then begins its operation.
  • It is then placed at the desired speed.
  • In case of using non-standard accessories, make sure of the speed.
  • Position the bipositional control in the OFF center and the equipment, as well as the indicator light, will stop.

Contact stirring

  • Position the control at minimum speed, place the device on a safe surface and connect it to the electrical source.
  • Then the bipositional control is positioned on the right on the TOUCH indicator.
  • The desired speed regulation knob is turned.
  • If a test tube is placed vertically on the shaking head, the equipment at that moment begins its operation and the light comes on.
  • Then the bipositional control is positioned in the center in OFF and the equipment, as well as the indicator light, will stop.
  • Place the test tubes as vertically as possible on the shaking head to allow for shake-free shaking.
  • Regulate the speed control slowly in order to avoid jerks during the work of the equipment.

Recommendations for maintenance and care

  • After each use, clean the shaker with a soft cloth.
  • Clean up any spills immediately adopting appropriate concerns.
  • Do not immerse the unit, or spill liquids on it, as this could cause electric shock.
