What is the name of the anesthesia machine?

Primarily, the anesthesia machine is a medical equipment that generates and mixes flows of fresh gas with medical gas drugs, induced by inhalation in order to induce and keep patients sedated.

It is usually used in conjunction with an artificial respirade, breathing system, suction equipment, and patient monitoring devices. The most commonly used type of anesthesia machine is the continuous flow or “Boyle Machine”, which is designed to supply and deliver medical gases with a precise concentration of anesthetic vapor, to continuously deliver it to the patient at a safe pressure and flow. These equipment are used in special circumstances and in a supervised manner in favor of the patient’s health, taking into account the following parameters:

  • Channeled oxygen, supplies medical air and nitrous oxide bonded through a yoke of the pin index safety system with a Bodok seal.
  • Pop-off valves, monitors the gas pressure and protects the parts of the machine and the patient, from excessive increases
  • Rotameters for oxygen, refers to the control of air and nitrous oxide.
  • Flow meters, are controlled under a high flow oxygen discharge, which avoids vaporizers to provide pure oxygen at 30-75 liters / minute.
  • Emergency Alarms, are the systems to monitor the gases administered and exhaled by the patient, including an oxygen failure warning device

Components of the Anesthesia Machine

  • Flowmeters: measure the amounts of a gas in circulation, the first they are identified by internationally named tones (air yellow, O2 green and N2O Blue).
  • Vaporizers: They provide the vaporization of volatile liquids, which causes the liquid anesthetic agent to become concise and dominable volumes of anesthetic vapor. They are fixed to prevent leakage of the anesthetic, with a protective cover to prevent the use of more than one of these.
  • Regulator: used to reduce the pressure of gas leaving the cylinder at adequate and constant pressure, and that regulates the flow of the cylinder. It provides the compressed gas at low pressure and at a long speed to meet the demands within the limits of its capacity.
  • Manometer: calculates the tension of the aeriform fluids, this usually adds two manometers, which measure the pressure of the gas from the cylinder per square inch, the other calculates the speed of expulsion per minute.
  • Yokes: used to adjust the gas cylinders to the regulator to the anesthesia machine and are adjusted with circular or rectangular metal tweezers. The inside of the yoke has a nipple that is ideally fixed to the corresponding part of the cylinder valve.

Maintenance and Training of Anesthesia Machines

Under supervision, the anesthesia machine guarantees the administration of anesthetic gases to the patient in an appropriate manner and avoid any accidental exposure. Such gases can adversely affect the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system in chronically exposed laboratory personnel. All equipment associated with the administration of inhaled anesthetics is required to be regularly evaluated by a professional who periodically monitors their calibrations, as well as inspect and review as needed. Staff must be able to use anesthesia machines properly before using them.

These machines contain a set of terminals capable of taking and supplying air, oxygen and anesthetic drugs in the state of gas or steam, both for general anesthesia, as well as to maintain ventilation in a normal state of the respiratory system and for the constant monitoring of the concentrations of the patient’s inhaled gases and their vital functions.
